Finally home. Happy and healthy!
February 22, 2009
Ahhhh, the sleeplessness of Fatherhood. For all of the people that told me it would be difficult and tiring, I now understand.
This whole thing started on Feb 17th at about 8:00 in the morning. We packed up the car and headed for the hospital for our scheduled induction. Upon arrival we were escorted to our “luxury” labor and delivery suite. Actually pretty nice, but I had the immediate thought of “thank god I won’t have to sleep in this room”. Little did I know that not only would I be sleeping in that room, but my wife would endure about 36 hours of labor before having a c-section and spending 5 long days in the hospital.
We went into the Operating room around 6:30 on Wednesday night for a routine procedure to delivery our baby and have a birthday celebration…nothing could have been further from the truth. Everything started out like normal, we were jamming to a song from the Top Gun sound track, holding each others hands, and preparing to meet our daughter in mere moments. The team of Doctors pulled the little one out at 7:03 and promptly put her on a table to clean her up, I went over to meet her while they were finishing up on Barb, and then decided to quickly get back over to her to make sure she was comfy and to tell her how beautiful daughter was, and then Beeeeeeeeppppppp…….
Barb had quit breathing and was loosing alot of blood. They quickly got me out of the operating room and brought me to a dark room without a daughter or a wife! Then in came our little one with one of the nurses, we then went to the nursery and examinated the new arrival. To say the least I was going through the broadest range of emotions one can have, new Dad, to is my Wife okay?
Finally I got a visit from 2 of the doctors in the nursery, niether of which could tell me what was going on or if she was alright. This was troublesome. Finally after about an hour of the strangest gammet of emotions they told me that Barb was recovering and we could bring the baby in to see her. Without to much medical jargon, she got some air in her lungs from the outside world while open and her body kinda “shut off”.
All is well that ends well as they say, so without further ado, I introduce you to Evelyn Pearl Lindvall. Born at 7:03 on February 18th, she weighed 6.8 lbs (I won the bet on this by the way) and measured a gigantic 21.25″ in length, tall and skinny like her Pop.
